Since the birth of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) as a management university in 1984, School of Management has been established to offer business management studies with the intention in providing an altruistic environment for the acquisition and the dissemination of contemporary business management knowledge. Initially, School of Management started off in offering undergraduate program namely Bachelor in Business Administration with Honours (BBA (HONS)).

Over the years, School of Management has been through successful transformation and rebranded as School of Business Management (SBM) with the ultimate aim in keeping abreast with the latest business management tools and knowledge in the new millennium. The distinctiveness of SBM undergraduate programs are such that they are designed to incorporate various skills and competencies that meet the current and future demands of the market. The program aim and learning outcomes for each degree is developed in line with the learning domains set by the Malaysian Qualification Framework (MQF). Providing excellent education is not only confined to the undergraduate programs, thus SBM offered postgraduate programs that are catered and continued to earn the reputation as a sustainable education path for matured students.

The diversity of disciplines provide excellent opportunities for students from different backgrounds to pursue their graduate studies notably the executives and managers working in the many multinationals company in the Northern region and the other part of Malaysia. More importantly, the programs are drawing candidates from the other parts of the world such as the Middle East, African Continents, China, Canada, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. In addition, SBM has also made an impact in research and graduate education by having their research published and cited in top-tier international journals.

In achieving the goals and the realization of UUM, COB and SBM vision and mission, a team of dedicated 122 academic staff and 14 administration staff has been at the forefront to provide their expertise and services with an open heart. Lastly, we see our history as a challenge—a legacy of energy and innovation, we strive for excellence every day as we redefine the nature of management education and invent the future of business.
