SBM Organizes Postgraduate Talk on Getting To Know The PhD Policies And Procedures

SBM ONLINE: SBM has once again conducted another Postgraduate Talk Series on 2nd October 2018, which has taken place in the Melaka Meeting Room, SBM. The talk, which entitled, “Getting to Know Your PhD Policies and Procedures” was given by Dr Nazlina Zakaria who is the Management Postgraduate Coordinator for SBM.

Dr Nazlina began her talk with an ice-breaking session where students were given the opportunity to introduce themselves and their intended research focus. Throughout the session, Dr Nazlina explained to the participants on the new rules and regulation concerning registration, the need for course work (where necessary), choosing the right topics, time limit and duration for PhD and masters by research, preparation for Proposal Defense (PD) and VIVA, procedures for the selection of reviewers, as well as durations for minor and major corrections.

In addition, Dr. Nazlina also shared the supervisor's perspectives on the quality of the students. Participants are advised to practice the tenth most important qualities to become an ideal postgraduate student and avoid the tenth most substantial shortcomings that affect satisfactory progress besides cultivating good relationships with supervisors. Finally, she also reminded all participants to always check with the graduate school regarding their status, payment issues as well as the latest updates or recent changes with regards to their studies in UUM.

The two-hour session ended on a very fruitful as participants were actively involved in the Q&A sessions and Dr. Nazlina in return has managed to clarify the important issues that have been highlighted by students.

In conclusion, Dr Hossein Meddour, on behalf of the SBM, gave a token of appreciation to Dr Nazlina Zakaria in return for sharing her precious knowledge and experiences. The session ended with a group photo-session and the certificate giving ceremony by the guest speaker.  The session ended at 11.30am.
