SBM ONLINE: On the 15th of May 2018, SBM’s Business Ethics Club ( BEC) in collaboration with the Committee of Strategy Collaboration for East Asia Countries organized a talk about academic integrity and academic norms of university students. The talk which delivered by Prof. Guo Yanling from Hebei University, China was attended by more than 100 UUM students , staff and lecturers including the Deputy Dean of SBM, Dr Khairol Anuar Ishak.
The main purpose of the program was to create awareness and highlight the importance of academic integrity among UUM students. The talk also aimed to encourage students to practice academic integrity and avoid unethical behaviours such as plagiarism.
Throughout the session, Prof. Guo Yanling discussed the importance of integrity and the downside of dishonesty. Apart from that, she also highlighted to the students that it is paramount for students to strictly obey ethical and academic norms during their learning and research journeys. This is because integrity plays an important role towards building a better society and civilization. In addition to that, she also presented some unethical practices cases which happened in China’s university, during the examination seasons. The cases highlighted some unethical practices and the negative consequences of such behaviours. Towards the end of the talk, the professor gave the students an overview of Hebei University which is one of top university in China.
