The School of Business Management (SBM) has successfully organized it’s Young Entrepreneur Carnival V 2017 which was held on 9th and 10th of December 2017, at the Center for Culture and Arts, Universiti Utara Malaysia.The carnival was organized by the students from the BPME2013 Entrepreneur Skills and Behaviour class, under the supervisions of Dr Donny Abdul Latief Poespowidjojo, Dr Shamsul Huda bt Abd Rani and Dr Mohd Sufli bin Yusof. The carnival was headed by Mr. Mohamad Zharfan Bin Ali as the Program Director and has carried out various interesting activities such as coloring competition, cake decorations, snake exhibitions, archery, horse riding, grooming classes, busking and many more.
The coloring contest that took place on the first day of the program, received a well response with around 40 children's participation from kindergartens and schools around Changlun and Sintok, Kedah. In addition, the students were also given the opportunity to market 21 types of different products that have been initiated and commercialized by themselves in class, as part of their group assignments. A number of at least 47 booths participated in this event including traders from around Changlun and Jitra. Additionally, to enliven the carnival, 10 mascots from various animal characters were brought in for the two-days program.
The carnival aims to provide an avenue for students to apply their knowledge gained in their Entrepreneurship class in a real business environment particularly related to organizing public events. By being involved in the event, the students have gained the opportunity to enhance their communication skills, teamwork as well as strengthen their personal business networking skills.
Dean of SBM, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah was invited for the opening and closing ceremony. The Dean was also pleased to deliver the prizes to the winners during the closing ceremony. Also present were the Deputy Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fais bin Ahmad, Head of Department of BBA and BENT, Dr Khairol Anuar bin Ishak as well as lecturers from SBM.
