UUM Achievement in QS World University Ranking

SBM Online: UUM continues its steady ascent in the QS University Rankings by Subject Area in Social Sciences and Management. UUM is currently listed at the 315 position in the world for the 2017 edition. In the Social Sciences and Management areas, UUM has successfully increased its position by 49 places compared to the 364 position in the 2014 edition. Furthermore, UUM made its debut at the 401-450 position in Arts and Humanities. This result was announced today at www.topuniversities.com.

At present, UUM is ranked among the world's elite institutions when 4 out of the 46 subjects and two subject areas are listed in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017. For the QS University Rankings by Subject 2017, three new subjects made it to the list - the Business and Management Studies is ranked at the 251-300 position, followed by Economics and Econometrics at the 301-350 position as well as Computer Science and Information Systems at the 451-500 position. The Accounting and Finance subjects retain the position at the 151-200 in the world and the second in Malaysia.

UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak expressed his delight at the impressive achievements of UUM in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. For this year’s rankings, QS evaluated a total of 4,438 universities, qualified 3,098 and finally, only 1,117 institutions were included in the overall rankings. In addition, more than 127 million citations were analysed and QS verified the provision of more than 18,900 programmes.

In this latest edition, a total of 46 subjects were listed and grouped in five key areas specifically Arts and Humanities; Life Sciences and Medicine; Natural Sciences; Social Sciences and Management as well as Engineering and Technology. QS also introduced an additional four subject areas compared to the previous edition. The four new subjects areas are Theology, Divinity and Religious Studies; Anatomy and Physiology; Hospitality and Leisure Studies, and Sports-related subjects.
