SoSCoE Hosts Successful Road Safety Webinar "Mai Selamat Balik Selamat" to Promote Safe Commuting Practices

On November 13, 2022, the Social Security Management Centre of Excellence (SoSCoE) successfully organized the Road Safety "Mai Selamat Balik Selamat" webinar, a dynamic event aimed at enhancing road safety knowledge and fostering a culture of safety for commuters.

Conducted via Webex, this insightful webinar was organized by students from the Master of Science (Occupational Safety & Health Management Programme) enrolled in the BSMH5213 Safety Management session A221, under the guidance of the School of Business Management. Universiti Utara Malaysia Staff Union (KESKA) provided essential support in organizing this impactful initiative.

With the objective of sharing knowledge, experiences, and expertise, the webinar focused on legal issues concerning road safety, particularly during commute to and from work. It aimed to provide a platform for two-way communication, facilitating the development and dissemination of vital information related to safety and health on the road. Moreover, the event sought to raise awareness and promote a comprehensive understanding of road safety among individuals across all societal strata.

Inspector Mohd Jasmizar Bin Jamiran, the Inspector of General Policing Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at Kota Setar District Police Headquarters, delivered an engaging keynote address on the topic of "Road Safety." Inspector Jasmizar's vast experience in traffic management and enforcement allowed him to shed light on crucial aspects of road safety, including traffic regulations, driver behavior, and accident prevention measures. His insights proved invaluable in equipping participants with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and strategies involved in ensuring safe road practices.

Continuing the lineup of expert speakers, Mr. Abdul Rahim Bin Wahab, the Head Executive Officer of the PERKESO office in Kuala Lumpur, delivered a keynote presentation on the topic of "Employment Injury Scheme." Mr. Abdul Rahim's expertise in occupational safety and health management provided participants with insights into the legal framework and support systems in place for individuals who experience employment-related injuries. His presentation highlighted the importance of ensuring workplace safety and the available resources to support those affected by work-related accidents.

The webinar's agenda encompassed a range of dynamic panel discussions featuring esteemed professionals and industry leaders from various sectors. These engaging sessions explored topics such as effective risk management strategies, driver behavior modification techniques, and the integration of technology to enhance road safety. Government representatives, including officials from the Ministry of Transport, shared valuable insights on policy development and enforcement measures. Transportation company executives offered industry-specific perspectives on promoting safe commuting practices, emphasizing the role of driver training programs and safety protocols.

Throughout the webinar, participants actively engaged with the panelists, utilizing the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarifications on critical road safety issues. This interactive approach fostered a collaborative learning environment and facilitated the exchange of practical solutions and best practices.
